NEW YORK, NY .- A presentation of recent work by Justin Matherly, the artist’s fifth one-person show with Paula Cooper Gallery, opened Thursday, January 7 at 524 West 26th Street. Building from his previous exhibitions in both Zurich and New York, “Compost” references the sculpture of Greek and Roman antiquity to examine the human figure and convalescence as major tropes throughout art history. Matherly’s rough-hewn objects—cast in concrete, gypsum, fiberglass resin, and other contemporary materials—allude to corporeal and historical decay and entropy, eternal regeneration and continuity.

Asya Geisberg Gallery opens an exhibition of Todd Kelly s newest body of work

Asya Geisberg Gallery opens an exhibition of Todd Kelly s newest body of work Todd Kelly, Pink Orange Composition 4, 2020. Oil, acrylic, and collage on linen, 14h x 11w in. 35.56h x 27.94w cm. NEW YORK, NY .-Asya Geisberg Gallery is presenting Settings , the fifth solo presentation of Todd Kelly. Kelly s paintings have consistently spiraled between their surface and conceptual depth. In recent series, a sort of painted quilt unifies and flattens via layers of stenciled shapes or pulsating hand-painted grids or tiny lines. Frequently jumping within a series, show, or even painting between abstraction and outlined or flattened figuration, Kelly enjoys the interplay between objects, arrangements, and patterns. His work has made successively intricate arguments for the continual pleasures to be found in the arena of still life painting for contemporary painters.
